POSITION SUMMARY
SHARE is seeking an experienced Finance and Operations leader who is passionate about building a more sustainable and inclusive economy and looking to contribute to a vibrant, values-driven organization. SHARE is a rapidly growing organization, and this is a new position. The Director, Finance and Operations (DFO) will oversee organization-wide operations including financial administration and budgeting, grant and project funding tracking and reporting, human resources, and information technology. With direction from the CEO, the DFO ensures that the organization’s systems and staffing support the effective delivery of SHARE’s programs and services. As a member of the senior leadership team, the DFO will work closely with program leads and a motivated and engaged Treasurer on the board of directors. This position will be supported by a part-time Accountant and a part-time Office Manager.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The key responsibilities outlined below are descriptive and not an exhaustive or comprehensive list of all tasks and duties associated with this position.

Expertise and Leadership:
• Work with the CEO and senior leadership team on all operational issues
• Participate in the ongoing strategic planning process
• Review and evaluate operational and organizational systems as necessary
• Lead the development and implementation of internal policies and procedures that meet best practices and align with SHARE’s values, including a deep commitment to anti-racism, diversity, equity, inclusion, and Indigenous reconciliation
• Monitor legislation as it relates to privacy, human resources and best practices related to financial management

Human Resources:
• Lead all HR planning in consultation with the CEO and Senior Management Team
• Working closely with hiring managers, lead the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of high-quality personnel
• Oversee the implementation of the annual performance review cycle including regular check-ins, quarterly and annual meetings, work planning, training plans, career paths, job description reviews, and performance management
• Ensure that SHARE complies with all Labour, Employment and Human Rights legislation
• Recommend, create, and administer HR policies, and benefits, in compliance with relevant legislation and SHARE’s collective agreement
• Maintain constructive relations with the union representing SHARE staff and support the CEO in collective bargaining negotiations

Finance:
• Oversee the budgeting process, review financial statements, and oversee the preparation of all financial reporting
• Maintain and continuously improve finance and accounting procedures, ensuring that relevant policies are followed, controls are effective, and system are in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
• Oversee all financial, project-based, and departmental accounting and assist senior managers with financial oversight for respective programs and projects
• Make recommendations for financial resources and training, and create appropriate tools

Development:
• Assist senior managers with developing funding applications and coordinating with potential funders
• Oversee development of programmatic and financial reporting to funders
• Assist the CEO with developing service proposals
• Prepare service and vendor contracts for approval

Information Technology and Privacy:
• Oversee the implementation and ongoing assessment of SHARE’s information technology, ensuring appropriate systems are in place
• Ensure that all internal policies and procedures meet best practices, privacy legislation and SHARE’s contractual obligations as they pertain to information management and privacy
• Approve all software and hardware purchases
• Ensure the appropriate collection, use and disclosure of personal information

QUALIFICATIONS
The DFO will be an experienced leader with at least seven years of financial and human resources experience. The successful candidate will ideally have experience managing finance (accounting, budgeting, control, and reporting), HR, and IT for a national nonprofit.

The DFO will have the following minimum skills and qualities:
• A minimum of a Bachelors’ Degree (e.g. BMath, BCom, BBA or BAcc) and CPA; an MBA would be a plus
• Experience in a senior level in a comparable non-profit organization
• Demonstrated excellence in managing finance, accounting, budgeting, control, and reporting
• Demonstrable knowledge of Canadian accounting standards for non-profit organizations and regulations governing non-profit accounting
• Skill in examining, developing, reengineering, and recommending financial, HR, and IT policies and procedures
• Strong analytical skills and experience interpreting a strategic vision into an operational model
• Demonstrated track record in promoting diversity, equity and inclusion in organizations
• A collaborative and flexible style, with a strong service mentality. Works comfortably with technology and has experience with cloud-solutions, electronic workflows and virtual collaboration. Needs to be seen as a team player who is committed to lifelong learning
• A hands-on manager with integrity and a desire to work in a dynamic, mission-driven environment. Strong commitment to developing team members
• Fluency in English is required. Bilingualism (French and English) would be a valuable asset
• An effective communicator, with strong oral and written skills

WORKING CONDITIONS
• During the Covid-19 pandemic, work will primarily be remote from home or other suitable location, with a phased return to SHARE’s offices planned in accordance with guidance from public health authorities
• Ordinarily, work is in a standard office environment, based out of SHARE’s Toronto or Vancouver office
• Occasional overnight and international travel required
