Investment and Climate Change Dialogue

November 1, 2012 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Investment and Climate Change Dialogue:

Why investors need to be paying attention to climate change and how

Climate change poses significant financial and economic risks accentuated by the tens of billions of dollars in losses due to climate-related natural disasters, such as the floods in Australia, Brazil and Pakistan and the wildfires in Colorado and Russia. It also brings fundamental implications for investment patterns, risks and rewards. Studies show that continued delay in climate change policy action and lack of international coordination could cost institutional investors trillions of dollars over the coming decades.

Managing climate change risk in a way that maintains your investment fund’s financial health is a crucial responsibility for pension fund trustees, foundation investment committee members, university treasurers, and other fiduciaries responsible for overseeing institutional capital pools.

Join us to learn about the implications of climate change for investors and steps that you can take to address climate change as part of the investment management process. You will hear from world-renowned climate change experts on the most recent climate science, implications of climate change for the agriculture sector as well as climate policy developments in Canada. Speakers include Dr. Mark Jaccard from Simon Fraser University, Dr. Thomas Pedersen from the University of Victoria, Dr. Simon Donner from the University of British Columbia and Jennifer Coulson, Manager of Shareholder Engagement at bcIMC.
