Worker-Driven Social Responsibility: Key Investor Insights for Nike’s AGM

In advance of the Nike Annual General Meeting, we would like to invite you to a webinar addressing the key challenges and opportunities associated with Nike’s human rights due diligence in high-risk countries. Our panelists will discuss how worker-driven social responsibility (WSR) principles and initiatives like binding agreements can contribute to better risk mitigation for Nike and its shareholders and better outcomes for supply chain workers.

Like many companies, Nike’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) program substantially relies on social audits and voluntary initiatives to identify and address exploitative and unsafe working conditions in its global supply chain. However, public evidence and research shows that these approaches often fail to identify, mitigate and remediate severe human rights abuses such as wage theft, inadequate health and safety or gender-based violence. This is particularly true in high-risk countries where pervasive and systemic exploitative labour practices persist.

In response to this, the Shareholder Association for Research and Education (SHARE), Domini Impact Equity Fund, Trillium Asset Management, Triodos Asset Management, CCLA and PGGM have co-filed a shareholder proposal requesting a company report evaluating how implementing WSR principles and supporting binding agreements would impact Nike’s ability to identify and remediate human rights issues in sourcing from high-risk countries.

Join us on Tuesday, August 27 at 10:00am ET (4:00pm CEST) to learn more about the human rights risks that Nike faces in its supply chain and investor perspective on what better human rights due diligence should look like. Panelists will include investors and civil society actors, sharing their unique and complementary perspective ahead of Nike’s Annual General Meeting.

  • Mary Beth Gallagher, Director of Engagement at Domini Impact Investments
  • Lisa Hayles, Director of International Shareholder Advocacy at Trillium Asset Management
