Supporting grassroots workers’ campaigns through capital market engagements.

The Global Capital Strategies Hub (the “Hub”) supports workers’ campaigns in the Global South by engaging capital market actors to uphold decent work and labour rights.

The Hub offers research, strategy and project coordination to grassroots labour organizations seeking to engage international financial institutions, institutional investors, and corporations.

We engage with companies on behalf of investors, advocating for change that aligns with global social and labour standards. We work with a vast network of investors who are actively aligned with environmental, social and governance (ESG) changes. This network can be mobilized to support meaningful labour changes alongside on-the-ground workers’ organizations.

The Hub is an initiative of the Shareholder Association for Research and Education (SHARE), in partnership with Pensions & Investment Research Consultants Ltd. (PIRC).

What are capital strategies?

For the Hub, “capital strategies” refers to actions engaging capital market actors in aligning company practices with broad societal goals.

Capital strategies are used to address specific cases and issues of concern to workers in public and private markets. They have been incorporated into the work of a range of movements and organizations, including environmental justice groups, trade unions and Indigenous communities. Capital strategies have generated positive outcomes for workers, their communities, other stakeholders, companies and investors.

Why are capital strategies important?

The long-term performance of investments depends on stable and healthy social and ecological systems. Aligning corporate practices with labour and social standards can help companies and investors mitigate risks. Upholding human rights and social standards contributes to broader goals of income and wealth equality, equity and inclusion. Plus, doing so can bring benefits to both investors and the companies in which they invest.

Let’s work together to progress international workers’ rights.
