New Executive Director appointed at Shareholder Association for Research & Education

Kevin Thomas has been appointed as the new Executive Director of the Shareholder Association for Research & Education (SHARE), starting June 1, 2018. Peter Chapman is stepping down after 18 years at the helm of the organization.

SHARE is a Canadian non-profit organization that amplifies investor leadership to build a sustainable, inclusive and productive economy. It works with approximately 40 institutional investors with more than $22 billion in assets under management, advocating with companies, governments and regulators for better environmental, social and governance policies, practices, and regulations.

Since its inception in 2000, SHARE has been leading Canadian shareholder-led corporate engagement and public policy initiatives across a range of environmental, social and governance issues. In 2017 SHARE engaged with 164 companies, filed 20 shareholder proposals, and moved 50 companies to take actions on issues like climate change, gender diversity, Indigenous employment, and human rights.

Kevin Thomas is currently the organization’s Director of Shareholder Engagement, leading SHARE’s investor engagement and policy programs. Prior to joining SHARE, Kevin worked internationally with companies, governments, and trade unions to improve working conditions in global supply chains and as a political advisor and Chief Negotiator for Treaty negotiations, land use, environmental protection and economic benefit agreements for a First Nation in Alberta. Kevin holds an LLM in international business law.
