Pension Boot Camp

Designed for tomorrow’s trustees and union pension champions, the day-long Boot Camp delivers expert-led presentations. Tailored to the beginner, topics will include an introduction to the Canadian retirement system, pension law, understanding the role of the actuary, and investment basics.

Trustee Master Class: Embedding Responsible Investment in Pension Fund Governance and Across Asset Classes

This year’s Master Class will provide experienced trustees with the opportunity to explore strategies for embedding responsible investment into pension fund governance and across asset classes in an interactive and hands-on learning setting. In the morning, the class will consider key tools and techniques for hard-wiring environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) considerations into investment practices. Participants will discuss different strategies for ensuring alignment between asset managers and the long-term objectives and financial interests of their pension funds. In the afternoon, we will examine the challenges and opportunities associated with infrastructure investments including addressing ESG issues.

SFU Public Event: Shared Prosperity: The Role of Investors in Addressing Inequality

The unequal distribution of economic benefits across society has become a headline political and economic issue. Investors continue to express concern that high pay leads to risky behaviour and oversized rewards for a few while stagnating standards of living built on low pay strategies are undermining economies. This dialogue event will explore how long-term investors such as pension funds are grappling with the challenges of economic inequality and addressing the opportunity of shared prosperity.
