Hamilton Community Foundation joins SHARE engagement program to progress ESG agenda in philanthropic sector

Hamilton Community Foundation (HCF) has partnered with SHARE’s engagement program to deepen their investor advocacy and stewardship efforts.

As a registered charity and one of Canada’s almost 200 community foundations driving positive change through philanthropy, the Foundation is dedicated to advancing its longstanding commitment to environmental, social and governance (ESG) investing.

Through the engagement program, the Foundation will connect with public companies in its investment portfolio on an ambitious agenda to advance climate action, reconciliation and human rights.

As institutional investors, foundations steward large amounts of wealth on behalf of donors, community funds and endowments, with wealth being redirected through grants and funding for grassroots efforts towards social and environmental change. In order to build a strategy and agenda that holistically addresses a social or environmental change mission, foundations must work towards change not only through their charitable model, but also through their investment practices.

“By working with SHARE, Hamilton Community Foundation is taking the next step in building an equitable and meaningful approach to capital stewardship,” said Yulena Wan, Director of Finance and Operations at HCF. “We look forward to working with SHARE’s ambitious and innovative engagement program to address climate change, reconciliation, and the promotion of decent work and human rights.”

“We are thrilled to have Hamilton Community Foundation join the SHARE engagement program,” said Jennifer Story, Acting Director of Shareholder Advocacy at SHARE. “As one of Canada’s largest community foundations, they are paving the way for others to build on their leadership in Canada’s social change and advocacy space.”
