MAKEWAY FOUNDATION PARTNERS WITH SHARE TO HARNESS INVESTMENT PORTFOLIO AS A MEANS FOR CHANGE

MakeWay Foundation (MakeWay) is a leading national charity and public foundation dedicated to providing innovative supports for environmental and social change initiatives across the country. By joining SHARE’s engagement program, MakeWay is adding to its diverse toolkit of solutions for achieving its vision of a healthy planet and equitable society.

“If we want to build a society where nature and communities thrive together, the world of investing must radically transform.” said Joanna Kerr, MakeWay’s CEO. “MakeWay strives to do its part by leveraging our entire investment portfolio. I’m happy that through SHARE, we will harness our influence as shareholders and join a network of like-minded organizations advocating for corporate sustainability practices.”

From helping to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy, to ensuring that companies commit to including Indigenous Peoples as partners and rights holders in their corporate practices, MakeWay can leverage the combined influence of SHARE’s network of Canadian institutional investors, including foundations, universities, pension funds and Indigenous trusts, driving change through strategic shareholder advocacy in sectors where engagement can have the greatest impact.

“We are thrilled to welcome MakeWay to the SHARE engagement program and are excited to work with them to drive change.” said Anthony Schein, Director of Shareholder Advocacy at SHARE. “Our track record of ambitious, outcomes-oriented engagements is only possible with the support of investors willing to take leadership. I am excited to get to work with MakeWay to build a sustainable, inclusive and productive economy.”
