SHARE launches new Montreal-based responsible investment sister organization

SHARE is pleased to announce a new partnership with Groupe Investissement Responsable to offer a new jointly-owned proxy voting and advisory service for institutional investors coast-to-coast.

SHARE and the Montreal-based Groupe Investissement Responsable both have a 20-year history of advancing responsible investment in Canada. During that time, we have both offered our respective clients consultation and proxy voting services to help them take into account environmental, social, and governance issues in their investments and voting decisions while respecting their fiduciary duties.

Today, Groupe Investissement Responsable and SHARE will combine our proxy voting services in a single entity, which will be known as GIR, bringing together our many years of collective expertise and experience in this area. By combining the best of both of our proxy voting services into one new entity, we are creating an even stronger service for both our clients.

The new GIR will assume all of the operations of the old Groupe Investissement Responsable, as well as the proxy voting services formerly provided by SHARE’s in-house staff. As a part owner, SHARE will take a seat on the board and continue to promote its unique proxy voting guidelines and practices through the new organization.

SHARE will, of course, continue to expand our own shareholder engagement services for institutional investors, alongside our award-winning and innovative advocacy, research and leadership development, and mobilization programs. We will also continue to offer proxy vote audit services to help asset owners oversee the voting practices of their asset managers.

We’re excited to launch a new and promising sister organization for SHARE, together with the staff at GIR. Now more than ever, shareholder votes are having a significant impact on the environmental, social, and governance practices of corporations. Expanding our work with the new GIR is one more way we can hold corporate management accountable.

Regards,

Kevin Thomas
CEO, SHARE
